Discover the joy of riding fast skateboards on any terrain of your choice at 100 km/hr with NGV’s new product, the revolutionary Nextboard. Retaining all the elements that made the fast electric skateboard so popular earlier and updating it to suit the needs and requirements of the new age, the Nextboard should be on every serious skater’s must-buy list.
Officially recognized fastest electric skateboard in the world and set a Guinness record.
Since its conception in the ‘60s, longboarding has evolved from a cult sport to a mainstream mode of transportation. Not only have the boards undergone several improvements through the years, but the associated culture has also spread to people of varying ages and skill levels. But the surge in popularity might also have something to do with the board itself.
Ask any rider why they enjoy longboarding, and their responses will alternate between the board’s ability to roll smoothly over different surfaces and its gliding capacity that puts conventional skateboards to shame. However, the popular answer is speed. The thrill of zipping across the city (or country), the feel of the wind in their hair, and the exertion of motor control is a rush unlike anything else. But after decades of retaining the same structure and functionality, an upgrade was long overdue. And it’s finally here courtesy of Slovenian startup NGV.
Dubbed the Nextboard, this product is a modified version retaining all the best elements of the classic longboard but cranking up the power to the max by adding NGV’s proprietary electric drive. No wonder the Nextboard, despite being fairly new to the industry, has already captured the public’s imagination and may even outstrip the traditional longboard. And, it doesn’t hurt that the product is endorsed by MischoErban, the Guinness World Record holder for the fastest skateboard speed from a standing position.
Aside from the lightest carbon fiber chassis in its class, the Nextboard contains four in-wheel motors that output 8kW of power. But there’s never any risk of losing control due to the inclusion of NGV’s own custom motor controllers. Coupled with the anti-lock regenerative brakes and a software controlled all-wheel-drive system for traction control, the Nextboard allows for a great riding experience on every terrain.
The big question is, what makes the Nextboard attain speeds in excess of 100 km/h? A combination of various factors comes into play here. For starters, the board runs on a redesigned BLDC motor that provides top-of-the-line performance to electric longboards with in-wheel motors. But the highlight is definitely NGV’s 4WD (4-wheel drive) technology that offers amazing torque for uphill and slow riding, while reaching eye-popping speeds.
The diameter of the motors being a mere 50 mm supports polyurethane rubber wheels with 85 mm diameters and thicknesses of 17.5 mm. The unique electric winding of the Nextboard motors are designed to allow rotations up to 9,000 revs per minute. For precision control and suitable torque and power in every operating mode, the company has streamlined the motor design, added ESC firmware on all four motors, and mounted those motors on every wheel.
Unlike other 4WD systems in the industry, NGV’s technology provides confidence and stability while cornering. The high number of motors is a gateway to better acceleration, better torque, better braking, as well as easy riding on steeper slopes. Combine all of this together and it makes sense why the Nextboard is a pioneer when it comes to the first and fastest electric longboard in the world.
The easily replaceable wheels on the Nextboard are constructed on an aluminum core that permits smooth mounting on the electric in-wheel motor. Perfect for cruising at high speeds, the Nextboard’s wheels are predictable and grippy, and never falter when sliding sharp turns and corners. What’s more, the core of the wheels have been redesigned altogether so the urethane attaches itself to the core both from the outside and the inside. This means there is zero chance of core separation, allowing for a safe and comfortable ride at every speed.
The company consciously chose to use Li-Po batteries rather than Li-Ion ones owing to the higher discharge rate. Plus, these batteries are small, lightweight and output enough electrical current to power all four of the motors. Because of Li-Po battery implementation, the Nextboard’s weight always remains less than 22 lbs or 10 kg. Plus, the cruising range exceeds more than 15 miles or 25 km. When the existing batteries run out, Nextboard riders can safely replace them with standard Li-Po batteries, ranging in power from 4S to 12S.
